Shopify migration
The risk is not migrating. It is staying.
Anyone can upload a catalog. Moving a store that makes money, without breaking anything and without losing Google, is another trade. It is what I have been doing since 2005.
01
WHY
WHY
The migration that frightens you is not the dangerous one. The dangerous one is the one you keep putting off.
In 2005 I put one of the first Italian ecommerce stores online, and I have done dozens of migrations since. I learned something no agency tells you at the first meeting: every extra month on a Magento that breaks with every update is rent you pay without seeing it on an invoice. The developer called in on a Saturday, the plugin that fights with the other plugin, the four seconds of loading in which the customer on a phone has already closed the tab. It is not a line item. That is why you do not see it. But you pay it every month.
“The biggest risk is not taking any risk.”
— Mark Zuckerberg

Magento, let us judge it honestly.
Magento was built for enterprise projects, and for those it is still a powerful platform. But in most cases, for a small or mid-sized company, it becomes a weight. Every update is a mini-project with potentially critical consequences. Every extension is one more point of risk and cost. Day-to-day work on the backend becomes a job in itself. And meanwhile the costs turn variable: you never know what next month will really cost you.
The real limit today, though, is not even technical. It is strategic: every ounce of energy spent keeping the platform standing is energy taken away from growth.

There is only one fear worth having: “I will lose Google and my order history”.
And it is also the only genuinely delicate piece — the one you handle with craft, not with crossed fingers. It is done with a complete URL map and 301 redirects, with canonicals, sitemap and Search Console in order, with the data transfer under integrity control, with the tracking alive from the first minute and a staging environment where everything is tried first. And with a rollback plan in the drawer, for safety.
Traffic is not lost because of the migration. It is lost because of whoever rushes it.
Shopify migration
It is not the strongest of the species that survives, but the one most adaptable to change.

CASE STUDY · MEDICAL B2B
100,000 historical orders. Eight years of customizations. Zero days of sales stopped.
For CFS — Italy’s number one in online medical supplies — migrating was not a simple option: a Magento with 100,000 orders behind it, 160 customizations built up over the years and B2B logic that could not miss a beat. We moved it to Shopify Plus piece by piece, with staging and integrity checks, without stopping sales for a single day.
The result: conversion rate from 1.14% to 2.51% — more than double — and maintenance costs down 70%. The migration that caused the most fear turned out, done properly, to weigh the least.

DOUBTS
FREQUENTLY ASKED
Got doubts?
Will I lose my Google rankings?
No, not if it is done properly: URL map, 301 redirects, canonicals, sitemap and Search Console keep the rankings standing. Traffic is lost to haste, not to the migration.
And the order history and customer data?
They are transferred with integrity tests before go-live. For CFS we moved 100,000 historical orders without an hour of downtime.
What about my integrations (ERP, CRM, management system)?
The flows are remapped and reconnected through APIs, then everything is tested end to end before launch.
How long does it take, and do I have to stop selling?
Usually 3–4 months. The store stays online: the final switch happens inside a planned window, with the goal of zero downtime.
And if the numbers say migrating is not worth it for me?
We will be the first to tell you. It happened with ODF: the right choice was staying on PrestaShop.
Done properly, it is not a leap in the dark.
It is the moment you stop paying the invisible rent.
And if your numbers say you are better off NOT migrating, we will be the first to tell you. Twenty years of craft are good for that too. Send us the URL, the Magento version (or PrestaShop, or WooCommerce) and a sense of the volumes: we will tell you what is actually worth doing.
